We gotta get used to it. Your iPhone or Android phone regularly tells you an upgrade is available and you postpone it, ignore it but sooner or later you’re going to give in because the notifications just won’t stop. It’s the same with cars, which can now receive over-the-air upgrades.
Porsche, for example, has just announced a new ugprade for the Porsche Communication Management (PCM) system that you can use in the 911, Cayenne, Taycan and Panamera. You get a new interface, an improved version of Voice Pilot, wireless connection and *drum roll please* Spotify.
I don’t wanna name names but there’s a popular EV brand – the name starts with ‘T’ and ends with ‘Esla’ – that’s been offering Spotify [built-in] integration for its cars for a while and it works a treat. Basically you don’t have to connect your own Spotify account because the car has ‘its own’, giving you direct access to 70 million songs and 3.2 million podcasts.
Porsche said the upgrade also includes an improved version of the Charging Planner, which is no big deal in the Panamera and the Cayenne because those are just hybrids, but it a bit of a game changer in the Taycan.
