Far out to the horizon before me, amid this non-city (which I absolutely adore) and the rest of the world where there are clocks, an acceptable weather and windows, I see the desert of Nevada. It lingers on and reaches California. There are buildings that fade away into hot, dusty and confusing sand. 360°. I’m enjoying a very meagre, very expensive and very foul lunch on the top floor of the Stratosphere hotel in Las Vegas and it is bad. I tell you, really, honestly, properly bad food. But it’s ok. Here, you’re not paying for the food or the service or the location. You’re paying for the view. An incredible, breath-taking view. We’re high. 350 m/1,149 ft in the sky and this is the tallest freestanding observation tower in the United States. I have a thing for this…
