Ford wants you to know that the 2022 Maverick Hybrid, can achieve an EPA-tested 42 MPG in the city. Mind you, when they say ‘in the city’, I’m fairly certain they don’t mean New York City or LA.

The Maverick Hybrid is powered by a 2.5-litre EcoBoost engine, paired with a tiny electric unit, for a combined range of 500+ miles. A smaller 2.0-litre option will be available soon.
Ford had high expectations with the Maverick but the truth is these expectations were surpassed by the reality and that’s why the company is actually struggling to keep up with demand. And that’s before factoring in the infamous supply chain-related global issues.
If all goes to plan, which it probably won’t, production and delivery numbers will improve between late 2022 and early 2023. I wouldn’t hold my breath, though.
