I feel like at Mercedes-Benz, they are making it up as they go with the EQ line up. They launched the EQC a few years ago, which is essentially just another SUV, and then they realised it would make more sense to build a parallel range of cars, with one electric car for every equivalent ICE. Like the EQS for the S-Class and the EQE for the E-Class.
But then they launched the EQA, which is kinda like an electric A-Class, and the EQB, which is… I’m not sure what. The name suggests it may have been inspired by the B-Class but this is larger (4.68 in length) and less boxy.
The EQB, which is made in Kecskemét, Hungary for the European market and in Beijing for China, is available with 4+1 trim levels: Sport, Sport Plus, Premium and Premium Plus + the AMG Line. Priced from around €57k in Europe for the 300 4Matic.
The EQB 300 4Matic is powered by a 168-kW (225 hp) powertrain, while the 350 4Matic delivers 215 kW (288 hp).
Inside you’ll find a traditional Mercedes-style cabin, with a massive 10.25-inch screen for the MBUX system.
I think it looks a bit better than the actual B-Class but I believe Mercedes has sort of lost the plot when it comes to designing cars. I don’t know what it is, I can’t quite put my finger on it. They’re not ugly, just a bit bland.
