Permission to speak candidly and rant? I’m so over these ‘special-edition’ variants of cars that have been around for too long. I love Maserati, I want Maserati to triumph just as much as I want Abarth to triumph, but like most brands from the FCA era (now Stellantis), they can’t innovate and keep injection life into struggling brands just to keep them alive a little longer.
The MC Edition is the latest special-edition treatment reserved for the Ghibli, the Levante and the Quattroporte, available with larger wheels (22 in for the Levante and Ghibli and 21 in for the Quattroporte), Black piano finish for the interior, a Bowers & Wilkins sound system and some cool seats.
I love the Quattroporte, I was there when Maserati launched the current-gen around 7 years ago and here I am, several years later, still writing about cars but the cars I write about have changed a lot. And yet the Quattroporte is basically the same, it just has some new seats. I’m not sure these things still fly, the industry is changing, and I know that automakers are in deep, deep trouble so if this helps them make a quick buck, more power to Maser. But we need more.
