The cycle repeats: a car manufacturer that has never built anything other than sportscars is essentially forced to build an SUV because that’s what the market wants (fair enough), and then they try to turn that SUV into a massive supercar by giving it wings and a lot of power.
That’s exactly what happened with the DBX, Aston Martin’s SUV. I think Aston did a great job with the DBX because it looks a million times better than almost any other equivalent SUV out there. And that’s a big plus because getting the proportions right is tricky. But now there’s a new high-performance version, dubbed ‘DBX707‘, and I think it looks a bit… worse. Especially the rear section, which is ungainly.
The engine is the same 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged V8 that powers the ‘standard’ DBX, but it now delivers 697 hp (+154 hp) and 664 lb-ft of torque (+147 lb-ft). They’ve also fitted a newer, faster 9-speed wet clutch transmission, thanks to which, the car can now accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in just 3.3 seconds.
It actually 40.5 kg lighter than the standard DBX, and it is equipped with massive brakes (420 mm front, 390 mm rear), and larger wheels (22-in and 23-in) for “improved lap times”, according to Aston. In an SUV.
Deliveries are expected to begin in late 2022 / early 2023. And would you buy one? I actually do like the DBX, it looks great and I love the interior, but this? What do you think? Let me know in the comments below.
